Although I don’t use Twitter often, yesterday, I wandered over there and took at look at the happenings in the Twitterverse. Much to my surprise, I had a lovely red notice on my page that said my account was suspended. If you click the link on the big red box on your page, you find a page, which I now know contains the “Foul Owl.” (Not to be confused with the Fail Whale, which is equally useless, yet different.) The Foul Owl told me that I could look at the Twitter status to see if something was...

Today, I found out that Hope Clark of Funds for Writers fame selected me for the "Honest Scrap Award." I did a Google search on it and I'm not sure where it started, but the idea is that you share honest bits of information about yourself. The award has two components. You have to first list 10 honest things about yourself (and make them interesting), and second present the award to seven other bloggers. Here are 10 honest things about me: 1. I have a treadle sewing machine and enjoy sewing on it more than...

by James Byrd I'm a Seth Godin fan. I don't agree with everything he says, but I love reading his blog because it is often thought-provoking. His post from yesterday is no exception: The Difficult Choice In his blog entry, Seth responds to a critic of The Dip, his book that "teaches you when to quit." The critic claims that Seth doesn't allow enough for the role of luck in the story of companies and people who become successful. Seth's response is that either you believe in luck, in which case, why bother trying? Or, you...

Seth Godin posted a blog entry on June 16, 2008 called Superheroes. The message was inspirational because it talks about perseverance and how long it can take to become an "overnight success." Here's the link if you want to read it for yourself. Seth Godin's Superheroes Post I found the message inspirational because we are reinventing our business and it's slow going. You sometimes wonder if you're doing the right thing because you pour a lot of effort into your offer and your marketing, but the fruits of those labors are never instantaneous. If you want the...

Since we have been working hard on new private membership area of the NAPRP site, I am just now posting links to the great folks who agreed to run my "guest posting" about the importance of spaying and neutering pets, which we did the week of Spay Day (February 26). Check them out ;-) For the Love of Animals - http://4theloveofanimals.com/blog/2008/03/03/spay-day-guest-post/ The Blog Pound - http://www.theblogpound.com/index.php/weblog/permalink/guest_post/ Easy Vegan - http://www.easyvegan.info/2008/02/26/spay-day-usa/ Thank you for helping me spread the word! Vegan
We did another sort of mini-blog tour in the vegan realm last week. I wrote a couple of guest posts about our book Vegan Success. Check out: The Easy Vegan blog - Susan Daffron's Recipe for Vegan Success World Vegetarian and Vegan News blog - Guest Blogger Susan Daffron Thanks to both Kelly and Tony for letting me expound on the joys of vegan eating! Given the massive beef recall recently, vegan eating doesn't seem like such a bad idea now does it? Frankly, I'm really glad I don't have to worry when...

Periodically, I encounter something that makes my online world better. Today in a forum, I found out about Windows Live Writer.
If you have a blog, it's an incredibly cool tool. You can update your blog from your desktop, so you don't have to log into your blogging software. It's fast and easy to use.
Anyway, blogging is part of many people's marketing mix these days, which ties into this week's article. If you'd like to read it online, use the link below:

...the more they remain the same.
I just read an interesting report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The report basically looks at what Web 2.0 really is and if we should care.
Riding the Waves of Web 2.0
They ask:
"As researchers, we instinctively reach for our spreadsheets to see if there is evidence to inform the hype about any online trend."
Their conclusions seem to mostly be no. For example, the biggest thing most people really do with the Internet is send email (53%). They also compare the concept of Facebook to Geocities circa 1996. Clearly personal pages are...

The UPS's are squealing and the dogs are panting. Yes, it's thunderstorm season. The trees out my window are kind of going sideways. So instead of blogging up a storm, I'm blogging IN a storm.
Speaking of blogs, this evening's issue of Logical Tips talks about one of my latest pet peeves: the Snap Preview. I explain how end users can turn it off.
Turn Off the Snap Preview
I didn't mention this in the article, but I implore all you bloggers out there to disable this awful add-on. Most people hate it and it's probably hurting your blog readership. If your blogging...

It occurred to me after writing the last post that one cool side effect of not including text in the newsletters that go out to subscribers anymore is that I can say whatever I want.
Email content filters have affected my writing for years. Now I can boldly say things like SPAM. Or MORTGAGE. Not that I really want to talk about home loans or spam right this second. But I could.
SPAM! Lookie there I did it again ;-)

After Susie found the SimpsonMaker site, I had to give it a shot myself.
I used photoshop to add my pony tail and to change "Moe's" to "Fred's." I used Fred's in honor of Fred Colby, owner of the local microbrewery Lauging Dog Brewing.

For those who may be curious, we have moved our blog from WordPress to Subtext, which is a fork off the .Text blogging system.
It's a .NET based blogging system, and so far, I like it a LOT better. I mean a LOT.Technorati tags: daffron
