Reasons to Self Publish a Book

With the release of our new Logical Tips books, we have now published eight book ourselves (the four Logical Tips books, Happy Hound, Happy Tabby, Web Business Success, and Vegan Success.)

This week's article in the Publishize newsletter offers a few reasons why we have opted to take the self-publishing route, after going about it the "traditional" way:

A Few Good Reasons to Self Publish Your Book

Enjoy!

The Logical Tips Books Are Available

I sent out a notification to our Logical Tips list last week with a special pre-order price on our new books, since I thought they wouldn't be available on Amazon for a while. It turns out I was wrong; the Logical Tips books are already on Amazon too!

They don't have cover graphics yet, but if you do a search on my name, you see they are all listed:

Amazon Search for Susan C. Daffron

I discovered this because I looked at our sales report and a couple have already sold. Egad.

The other ultra cool thing is that now I can say I'm the author of NINE books ;-)

We are still offering the pre-order special on our books for a little more time (probably until Amazon gets my cover graphics up there).

Many people are opting for the "book bundle" which gives you a big discount on all four of the books. It's more than 500 pages of tips.

Copyrights and Article Marketing

Many people online seem to think that everything in cyberspace is just there for the taking (or more accurately the stealing). A friend of mine was outraged one time when she discovered a teacher actually had plagiarized her writing. It's no wonder kids seem to think that writing papers is basically an exercise in copy and paste.

If you're a writer, your words are your livelihood, so this week's article in the Publishize Newsletter discusses issues related to copyrights.

Be Careful with Your Copyrights

Many Splatters and a Big Nose

The thrills of pet ownership are ongoing. Troi, the cat on the cover of our Happy Tabby book, has been digestively challenged lately. We took her and our other cat Alia to the vet for a checkup. (If you're going to listen to one cat yowl all the way into town, you may as well listen to two.)

Alia got a clean bill of health, which is impressive, since she's almost 15 now. Little Troi doesn't seem to have anything obvious wrong, but is now on a lovely concoction of liquid antibiotics. Getting the pink goo into the unwilling cat is not easy and we have a house full of pink splatters now. It's going to be a very long 7-10 days of medication.

Of course, after we got back from the vet, Alia wasn't feeling good. After hearing a tell-tale "barf yowl" James grabbed her and tried to get her to the laundry room (and linoleum), but didn't make it. A trail of kitty barf went from the living room through the kitchen, with a particularly gruesome projectile splatter all over the refrigerator. (Eww!)

Then the other night we had yet another pet-related thrill. This time it was a dog. I was doing Christmas cards at the dining room table, looked down at our golden retriever Tika, and noticed that her nose had swollen up. It was bizarre; she looked like she had gained 50 pounds.

I zoomed off to the bathroom, got some liquid Benadryl, measured out a children's dose into a syringe, and shot it into her mouth. After that, the swelling started to go down. I gave her another dose of stuff at about 1 am, when I woke up.

The next morning, Tika looked normal. While I was at the vet with Troi, I asked about Tika's nose. The theory is that she might have gotten bitten by a spider. Tika has a habit of poking her nose into places where it doesn't belong. Apparently, this time something poked back.

New Blogging Tool and Marketing

Periodically, I encounter something that makes my online world better. Today in a forum, I found out about Windows Live Writer.

If you have a blog, it's an incredibly cool tool. You can update your blog from your desktop, so you don't have to log into your blogging software. It's fast and easy to use.

Anyway, blogging is part of many people's marketing mix these days, which ties into this week's article. If you'd like to read it online, use the link below:

Eating Meat Linked to Cancer

Yet another study showing why our "weirdo" vegan diet may not be so weird, after all.

High Meat Consumption Linked to Heightened Cancer Risk

Apparently, NIH and the AARP analyzed health data from 500K people starting in 1995-1996. They found:

"elevated risks for colorectal and lung cancer with high consumption of both meat types along with borderline higher risks for advanced prostate cancer. High red meat intake was also associated with increased risk of esophageal and liver and a borderline increased risk for laryngeal cancer. And high processed meat consumption also was associated with borderline increased risk for bladder cancer and myeloma, a kind of bone cancer."

Yikes.

People always say that going vegan is "too hard." It's not true as our cookbook amply proves. Fighting cancer is a whole lot harder, if you ask me. I still could get cancer for any number of reasons, but at least I've lowered my odds by not eating meat.

Earn Income Even When the Weather is Frightful

I forgot to post about last week's Publishize article. Last week, we had a huge snowstorm, and on Monday we woke up to a power outage. Then it rained, so the 3 feet of snow we had on the ground turned into 1 foot of heavy, slushy mush. Now we have ice.

Anyway, it wasn't the greatest week for getting big work done, which is why my article was so timely. We sold products while we were shoveling snow and digging out  ;-)
