Email is More Fun Again

One side effect of all the work we've been doing lately is that we now have a string of products that we sell through our online store. I'd never really thought about it before, but finding product orders in your email is a really fun thing, particularly since for the past few years, mostly what I've found in my in box has been spam.

As I've ranted before, spam just infuriates me. Early on, all the nerd gurus said, oh it's no big deal, just press the Delete key. Then everyone started getting not just a few annoying unwanted emails, but literally thousands of spam messages daily. It affects online commerce and communication, and on my more cynical days, I tend to think it will be the downfall of the Internet. When I first went online in 1994 or so, email was fun. Over the years, it has become less and less fun. My spam filter keeps a count of how much spam I get, and it's up to like 80 or 90% of the total emails going into my accounts. That's just disturbing.

However, now that I have said spam filtering, I don't get spam. Now I get orders in my emails, which is a far, far better thing.

Keeping Out the Varmints

This week it has finally felt like spring. When spring arrives so do the flowers and all the things that want to eat your flowers. After witnessing some crocus destruction, I decided it was time to take action. Last year's garden was marred by various critters getting in, around (under?) the fence, so this year I've decided to take steps to keep the wildlife away from my plants.

For many years, we've put up a 6-foot chicken wire fence to keep out the deer. But the bottom has been deteriorating. Hence the varmint invasion last summer.

So we got some smaller chicken wire to run along the bottom of the garden fence. The new fence is designed to work in conjunction with the old fence to keep out Mister Bunny and other varmints.

I have half the anti-varmint fence set up so far. The other half is gonna go up this weekend. Here's hoping Mister Bunny sticks to Easter Eggs and leaves my flowers alone!
